Teachers and Classrooms Receive i-Ready ‘Mid-Year Momentum’ Awards

Recently, the Curriculum Office honored some Brentwood teachers and classrooms with an award for their progress in i-Ready.  They received the Mid-Year Momentum Award for having the most progress on the i-Ready diagnostic from beginning of the year to mid-year. Congratulations to the honorees.

Freshmen Earn College Credit Through Composites Program

History was recently made at the Brentwood Freshman Campus as a group of trailblazing scholars bridged the gap between high school and higher education. In an ambitious display, these students became the first cohort to successfully complete the Introduction to Composites training program, earning college credit from Vaughn College before their sophomore year.

The luck of the Irish was with members of the Brentwood school community as they greeted one another along the parade route during the town’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade on March 21. 🌱 Brentwood Freshman Campus Makes History with New Hydroponic Farm

The Brentwood Union Free School District is proud to announce the launch of "Campus Fresh," a pioneering agricultural technology initiative at the Brentwood Freshman Center. In a landmark collaboration, students recently worked alongside Ag-Tech teacher Mr. Grow and personnel from Fork Farms to install a state-of-the-art “Flex Acre” hydroponic grow wall – the first of its kind to be installed in a school on the east coast.

Freshman Computer Science Students Master Drone Flight at Cradle of Aviation

Computer science students from Mr. Magaletto’s class at the Freshman Campus recently expanded their classroom curriculum with a hands-on visit to the Cradle of Aviation Museum in Garden City by participating in the museum’s immersive "Code-a-Drone" workshop, applying coding logic to real-world aeronautics.

Bus Drivers Learn Techniques to Create Positive Experiences

Preschool bus drivers participated in a Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) training on Nov. 7 focused on strategies for supporting positive behavior on the bus. Together, they explored how to foster an environment that helps every child begin and end their school day on a positive note.

Brentwood’s ‘I AM / WE ARE’ Initiative Deepens Connection, Advances Graduation PLUS+ Vision

Five Students Recognized For Recycling Artwork

Brentwood students Sebastian Avila, Ashley Bonilla Aguilar, Heaven Videa Arriaza and Ana Escobar – whose artwork will appear on the 2026 calendar cover – have been recognized by the New York State Association for Reduction, Reuse and Recycling (NYSAR³). Katie Amaya (not pictured) from Oak Park Elementary also won in the K-3 category.

Brentwood Board Honors Hispanic Leaders, Appoints New Assistant Superintendent

Hispanic and Latino heritage – a source of pride and strength in Brentwood – took center stage at Tuesday night’s Board of Education meeting, where trustees, educators, staff and community leaders were honored during Hispanic Heritage Month.

Additionally, the meeting closed with a big announcement: Stacey Brdey, principal of Southeast Elementary School, was appointed to succeed Assistant Superintendent Ann Palmer when she retires in December.

The Brentwood Freshman Center brought school spirit to a new level with its first-ever pep rally on June 13. Students and staff gathered to celebrate athletes from all sports seasons, recognizing their hard work, dedication, and achievements throughout the year. The event highlighted the pride and unity of the Brentwood community, creating a memorable experience for all in attendance.

My Brother's Keeper Hosts 2025 Cover Ceremony and Brunch

The Cover Ceremony serves as a symbolic rite of passage for MBK participants, representing their commitment to personal responsibility, academic success, and uplifting one another as they continue their journeys. Mentors placed ceremonial caps on students’ heads, reminding them they are part of a lifelong brotherhood and a community that will always support them.

Speech/Hearing Event Raises Record $1,600 for Scholarships

Student Entrepreneurs Create Mobile Truck Businesses

Throughout the school day, students presented original business concepts designed around mobile truck models. Fellow classmates visited the rotating presentations and cast their votes in two categories: Best Overall Presentation and Most Creative Business Concept.

Student Legislators Earn Top Honors at State Capitol Session

One student was elected governor for the 2025-26 New York State Youth and Government Program, another was selected for the prestigious Conference on National Affairs in North Carolina and two were recognized as outstanding delegates out of more than 800 participants.

Brentwood’s Annual Breast Cancer Walk Paints the Town Pink

The atmosphere was electric with upbeat music from the DJ, bursts of laughter and a sea of pink balloons and décor setting the tone. Raffle prizes added to the excitement, while smiles, hugs and cheers echoed the event’s spirit of unity.

Freshman Wins Bronze at Long Island Math Fair

Guided by her Geometry teacher, Mrs. Tara Luce, Suraksha presented an original research paper titled “Astronomy and Mathematics,” which explored the powerful and historic connection between mathematical theories and astronomical discoveries.

College and Careers Week Across All Grade Levels

This week, the Brentwood School District celebrated College and Careers Week, engaging students across all grade levels in meaningful exploration of career opportunities and pathways to post-secondary success. Throughout the week, the youngest learners envisioned their future professions, while middle and high school students completed Naviance surveys.
